Westoe brass band is a community brass band located in South Shields
We are active in the local community and in partnership with South Tyneside Council we take part in many local events throughout the year including the South Shields Parade, Rememberance Sunday and Armed Forces Day, as well as concerts at the Ampitheatre on south shields sea front. We remain close to our mining heritage and in fact rehearse at the Miners Welfare on the site of the old Harton Colliery.
We are a Championship Section band and we compete in local and national brass band competitions and have had great success in recent years.
Last year the band has come out of the pandemic after months of quizzes and and online play along rehearsals to a summer of concerts in band stands and summer fayres. Our Christmas programme featured 3 full concerts along with St Bede's choir in Jarrow, and the Killingworth Community choir at Dame Allens School in Newcastle. Our own headline concert this year was at St Michael's in South Shields...
We started 2022 opening season with a concert at the Boarshurst band club, and the band is working hard on Wilfred Heatons Contest Music for the North of England Contest in Durham. In Preparation for the area contest we took part in a test piece showcase at Spennymoor Town Hall. The event showed the best of North east banding and allowed the 5 bands to play their pieces before the contest and get critique from John Roberts in preparation for the main event.
After the area the band will be preparing for a summer of events which have been missing for the last two years, armed forces day, the Cookson parade and concerts at the amphitheatre and the gala in Durham. Among other events where the band will be featured.
Keep tuned to our social channels on Facebook and twitter for up to date information about the band over the course of the year...
